Castle Hill View Direct Reviews
Rachel & Mark - June 2026 — What an incredible base for exploring the North Pennines. The walk up to Hareshaw Linn waterfall from the village took our breath away — absolutely unmissable. Castle Hill View itself is warm, stylishly finished and those original ceiling beams in the living room give it real character. The views across the Bellingham valley from the living room are stunning. Chris was a fantastic host. We'll definitely return.
The Morrison Family - June 2026 — We had a brilliant family holiday here. The bunk room was a huge hit with the kids and the upstairs living space is really well designed — plenty of room to spread out after long days exploring. We visited Kielder Water and the children absolutely loved it. The tearoom in the old railway carriage is a must for families — such a quirky and lovely spot. Perfectly located right in the village. Five stars!
Jim - May 2026 - I spent a peaceful week walking the hills around Bellingham and Castle Hill View was everything I needed. The cottage is immaculately clean, warm and very comfortable — the double bedroom is a real retreat after a hard day on the fells. I had several excellent lunches at the Cheviot Hotel in the village and the staff were wonderfully friendly. Chris replied to every query within minutes. Quite simply superb.
Zoe & Dan - May 2026 — Bellingham is a brilliant hub for off-road cycling and Castle Hill View is the perfect base. Kielder Forest's trail network kept us busy for days and free parking right outside was really handy for loading the bikes. After the trails, the cottage felt genuinely luxurious — big sofas, electric fire, Netflix on the smart TV. We ate at the Riverdale Hall Hotel one evening which was a real treat. Highly recommend.
Carol & Judith - May 2026 — We came hoping for peace, countryside and wildlife, and got all three in spades. Watching deer and birds from the living room window each morning was magical — the valley views are genuinely special. We visited Kielder Observatory one evening for a stargazing session which was absolutely unforgettable under those dark Northumberland skies. Castle Hill View is cosy, characterful and very well equipped. Chris is an outstanding host.
The Patel Family - April 2026 — Travelling with very small children is always a challenge but Castle Hill View made it so easy. The cottage is compact and totally manageable, with everything you need right there. The Co-op is literally a few steps away which was a lifesaver for nappies and milk! We had lovely walks along the River North Tyne and the village itself is charming and very pram-friendly. We'll absolutely be coming back. Thank you, Chris!
Stuart - April 2026 - Bellingham is a hidden gem and Castle Hill View is the perfect base. I played Bellingham Golf Club — a wonderfully scenic course with views you simply don't get at most courses — and spent two days fly fishing on the North Tyne. The cottage is really comfortable, very clean, and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. Grabbed a pint and a pie at the Rose & Crown after fishing. Brilliant all round.
Helen - April 2026 - I came to paint and photograph the North Pennines landscape and could not have chosen a better spot. The light around Bellingham in the early mornings is extraordinary. Castle Hill View is a genuinely lovely retreat to return to — the upstairs living room with its beams and countryside views is a wonderful space to sit and sketch in the evenings. The railway carriage tearoom is a delight and the staff were so welcoming.
Ben & Chloe - March 2026 — We'd never been to this part of England before and were completely won over. Hareshaw Linn was the highlight — that waterfall is stunning. Castle Hill View itself is really stylish and cosy, much more upscale than we expected for a village cottage. We had a lovely dinner at the Riverdale Hall Hotel and explored Hadrian's Wall one day — only about 40 minutes away. We've already recommended it to three friends. Perfect.
Norman & Jean - March 2026 — Our collie Bobby comes everywhere with us and it's often difficult finding places that genuinely welcome dogs. Castle Hill View does — no extra charge and no fuss. The village and surrounding hills are wonderful for dog walking and Bobby was in heaven. We loved the afternoon teas at the railway carriage tearoom. The cottage is beautifully presented, very warm and the valley views are simply gorgeous. We'll be back with Bobby in the summer!

Steve - 5 stars - May 2026 - A great Airbnb for two. Fantastic location, spotlessly clean with comfortable beds. The kitchen is better suited to breakfasts and takeaways than full meals, but that worked perfectly for us.

Derek - 5 stars - August 2025 - We stopped in Bellingham for a couple of nights to break up a long drive from southern England to Scotland. A well-appointed, comfortable property with almost everything right outside the door — pubs, cafes, a greengrocer, Co-op and Chinese takeaway, plus a local brewery and tap room well worth a visit, and some great countryside walks.
David - 5 stars - September 2025 - A great spot right in the centre of Bellingham, nestled in the stunning Northumberland countryside. Brilliant for dog walks, with a decent pub opposite, a great coffee shop nearby and handy access to local shops. Comfortable beds throughout, though the back bedroom got a little noisy early on weekday mornings with school buses. The living space is compact but thoughtfully laid out with great sofas. The kitchenette was well stocked — a refreshing change from rentals that assume you'll always eat out. Everything was clean and well presented. Highly recommended and we'd gladly return.

Chris provided clear and detailed instructions covering everything we needed. The location was superb for exploring Northumberland, with numerous walks from the doorstep and further afield. Archana - 4 stars - July 2024 - A very practical and well-equipped place with everything you need for time away from home. Having a shop close by and a fresh fruit stall next door was a real bonus, as was the free parking and reliable internet. The artificial plants are perhaps a few too many and do take up quite a bit of room, but that's a minor point. Would happily return.

Even in the bitter cold, the cottage was beautifully warm. There are some really thoughtful touches, including a Christmas tree and a welcome bottle of wine and chocolates. Perfectly situated in the heart of Bellingham, and the dog-friendly pub just across the road is a real bonus. Highly recommended.

Michael - 5 stars - February 2025 - Highlights: right in the centre of Bellingham, spotlessly clean, a very comfortable double bed and a lovely surprise welcome package. Worth knowing: it's a compact space but perfectly fine for a long weekend for a couple and a dog. We did find it tricky to get the shower pressure quite right.
